Lane Kiffin describes his takeaways of Penn State QB Drew Allar
Ole Miss is getting ready to take on Penn State in the Peach Bowl. Ahead of that matchup, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin shared his thoughts on Nittany Lions quarterback Drew Allar.
Kiffin explained that Allar takes good care of the ball and is going to be a big challenge for his defense to stop.
“So, he’s hard to beat,” Lane Kiffin said. “Takes care of the ball really well. Really good mixture of being able to throw the ball and then get out of trouble and make a play and make a first down with his feet.”
There were times when Drew Allar wasn’t able to create explosive plays to the degree that many people wanted him to this season. However, he was consistently able to avoid turnovers and rarely beat himself. He finished the year with 2,336 yards passing, 23 touchdowns, and only one interception.
Lane Kiffin explained that when you blend how careful Drew Allar has been with the ball with the Penn State defense, the Nittany Lions are tough to beat.
“So, these guys are always really hard, what I call student of the games when you see them play. They rarely make any mistakes. When you couple that with the best defense in the country, that’s a really good combination. That’s why these guys have won so many games.”

Penn State QB Drew Allar opens up about Mike Yurcich’s departure
Drew Allar will be working with a new playcaller thanks to the departure of former offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich. It’s a change that Allar recently opened up about.
“Yeah, I think that’s kind of what I struggled with the first probably two or three days after it happened. Obviously, Coach Yurcich is a big part of why I’m here. He recruited me throughout high school and obviously I had a ton of fun playing under him for the two years I was here,” Allar said.
“But at the end of the day, Coach [James] Franklin did what he thought was best for the program and I’m completely aligned with Coach Franklin. He’s a big reason why I came here, too, to learn under Coach Franklin and play under him. So, really, it was just those two or three days. I had to just wash it and move on. I know Coach Yurcich is going to end up on his feet and he’s gonna do good wherever he goes.”
