Lane Kiffin describes watching the final moments of Alabama vs. Tennessee
Lane Kiffin knows how important the Tennessee vs. Alabama rivalry is. After all, he’s seen it from both sides as a Volunteers head coach and as a Crimson Tide offensive coordinator.
Now the Ole Miss head coach, he was a busy when last week’s thriller started. But that doesn’t mean he missed it.
Ole Miss defeated Auburn Saturday afternoon just in time for Kiffin to catch the tail end of Alabama vs. Tennessee, and he let the world know he was watching by tweeting about Volunteers’ kicker.
“I did [watch the game],” Kiffin told reporters Monday. “I sent a tweet as they were lining up for the field goal. And the guy did jump through to block it, so it was kind of eerie right there. … The beginning, I didn’t catch because we were finishing up here with recruiting and stuff, but exciting game.”

Kiffin also took some time to appreciate the back-and-forth nature of the game and how both fans were affected by Will Reichard’s missed field goal and Chase McGrath’s game-winner. If either one of those breaks differently, the postgame discussion is completely different.

“That’s football,” Kiffin said. “That game goes either way, just like we did in those games like Kentucky. It’s just always kind of funny for me to see fans and everybody when a game can go either way, one side misses a kick, one makes it, the whole world’s changed.”
Lane Kiffin explains posting old Tennessee photo before Alabama game
Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin caught the attention of Twitter when he tweeted an old photo of himself at Tennessee the week before the Volunteers were set to face Alabama. The photo in question was taken ahead of the infamous 2010 press conference where Kiffin announced he was leaving Knoxville for USC, and showed him leaning against a wall outside of the press room.
But as interesting as Kiffin’s tweet was at the time, the coach said in his Monday press conference that there wasn’t really a reason behind why he sent it, other than he thought it was funny.
“I guess in here the other day, I say I overthink things,” he said. “Sometimes, I underthink things. A lot of times people just send me something, and it was the week of that game and someone sent it as a joke to me. So I just tweeted it.”
