People have a lot of things to say about Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. But when it comes to social media usage, it’s tough to find someone who isn’t entertained by Kiffin’s presence on Twitter.

The latest example of that came Monday when he tweeted a photo of a license plate from Oklahoma with “SILENCE” as the license plate number.

For the caption, he used a thinking emoji, tagged Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and then the number zero.

The tweet, while somewhat cryptic, looks to be a reference to the Longhorns 49-0 drubbing of the Sooners last fall at the Cotton Bowl for the Red River Showdown.

Lane Kiffin will have time to explain himself later this week at SEC Media Days. Kiffin and his Ole Miss cohort making the annual appearance at the Grand Hyatt in Nashville on Thursday.

The players speaking to the media at the event will be defensive end Cedric Johnson, running back Quinshon Judkins and cornerback Deantre Prince. Notably, Kiffin has elected not to bring a quarterback — neither incumbent starter Jaxson Dart or former All-Big 12 quarterback transfer Spencer Sanders will be speaking to the media in Nashville.

Kiffin and Sarkisian go back over 20 years when they were both on Pete Carroll’s staff at USC. Sarkisian was an assistant from 2001-2003 and then from 2005-2008 while Kiffin was an assistant from 2001-2006. Both later became the head coach for the Trojans as well with Kiffin coaching form 2010-2013 and then Sarkisian coaching from 2014-2015.

The connections between the two don’t end there. When Kiffin was relieved of his duties as the Alabama offensive coordinator after being hired by Florida Atlantic ahead of the 2017 College Football National Championship Game, Sarkisian — who was an analyst that season — was promoted as his replacement.

Sarkisian and Kiffin will likely overlap again soon when Texas joins the SEC next season. But right now the Longhorns are trying to stay focused on the 2023 season and winning a final Big 12 Championship.

“It won’t be awkward for us. I can’t speak for anybody else,” Sarkisian said at Big 12 Media Days last week. “It won’t be awkward for us. We’ve got a roster full of players who quite frankly came to the University of Texas to try to win a Big 12 Championship, and we’ve got one more opportunity to do that, and I think our guys are focused on that.”
