Ole Miss could have called it a night early after being up 52-0 at halftime of their opener on Saturday. However, Lane Kiffin wanted everyone there that night to get the full experience.

Kiffin spoke about not moving to a running clock during the second half of the 76-0 victory for the Rebels over Furman during his postgame press conference. He said he was opposed to it because he wanted to get more reps for the players on the field.

“Kyle asked at halftime if we wanted to let the game clock run in the second half so it would be shorter, you know, because of the score. I was adamantly against it because I wanted to see these guys play, you know,” said Kiffin. “They worked really hard. Really got a lot of good players all around, especially the linemen.”

The same applied to the fans in The Sip, which ended up being their third-largest crowd all-time, for Kiffin. He wanted those in attendance to see a full game, regardless of how meaningless the blowout of a final score ended up being against the Paladins.

“You know, and the fans that stayed? I wanted them to, you know, get their full value of their ticket,” Kiffin said.

Ole Miss got to play 60 full minutes in the most lopsided win of the opening weekend in college football.

On offense, the Rebels were close to several records with the points being their most in almost 90 years with the 772 total yards being their second-most ever. Then, defensively, they held their opponent not just out of the end zone but outside of the red zone. That’s not even noting the school record for most extra points in a game.

Kiffin wanted his players to go while putting on a show for their fanbase inside Vaught-Hemingway. They did exactly that too to kick off what could be an all-time season this fall at Ole Miss.

Dart on Ole Miss’ dominant Week 1 win: ‘It’s kind of what we expected’

The expectations are quite high this season for Ole Miss. That’s why Jaxson Dart wasn’t too surprised by the strong showing from himself and his teammates on Saturday.

“Quite honestly, it’s kind of what we expected going into it,” Dart said after the game. “That’s just kind of the standard that we want to play at and excel at.”

From here, Dart says that the focus will remain on themselves this year.

“The big thing for us is just trying to control what we can control and, regardless of the score, regardless of the situation, going into each and every play with the same mindset. Trying to just execute it,” said Dart.

“So I’m really happy with how we were able to do that and thought it was just incredible by our defense not giving up any points.”
