Lane Kiffin trolls Kirby Smart over exercise, cheeseburgers
Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin continues to prove why he’s a great Twitter presence. Less than 24 hours after trolling Florida over its low-scoring spring game, he took aim at Georgia coach Kirby Smart.
Kiffin retweeted a video of Smart talking with a young football player and had a few emojis in his caption. He used a meditation, biker and runner emoji and tagged Smart in it after saying “Please!!!”
Then, he used the hand emoji with a cheeseburger.
Smart was talking with 12u football player Dashaun Morris II, who was visiting Georgia and got to interview Smart. He offered the up-and-coming defensive back some sound advice during their conversation.
“You don’t control necessarily how tall you are, you don’t control what opportunities you always get,” Smart said. “But what you do control is your attitude.”
It’s the second straight day Kiffin took aim at a fellow SEC program on Twitter. Thursday night, Florida participated in its spring game, which ended with a 10-7 score. The low-scoring affair was noted by college football Twitter, and Kiffin saw an opportunity to crack a joke.

He tweeted a picture of the 7-7 fourth quarter score and put two fire emojis in his tweet, an obviously sarcastic response to the Gators’ struggles to find the end zone as the defense put together a strong showing. During his Friday appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show — which took place a few minutes before his tweet about Smart — Kiffin explained why he tweeted the picture and used the emojis.
He also took the chance to make another joke about the Gators, especially new defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong, whose postgame gestures made their way across social media.
“I wasn’t being critical,” Kiffin said. “… Somebody had sent me that, so you know me, Paul. Sometimes, you’ve sent me things. I just retweet them, I don’t give them a lot of thought. But I did see their final stats and I did see their defensive coordinator’s interesting signals. Maybe that’s a signal for one of their defenses or something he was doing.”
Of course, Kiffin is also getting ready for his own spring game as Ole Miss will play Saturday. The big storyline is at quarterback as Jaxson Dart competes with transfers Spencer Sanders and Walker Howard for the starting job. Through spring practice, though, Kiffin said things have gone well with the different amounts of experience in the room.
