LaNorris Sellers injury update: Pete Thamel reveals status for Ole Miss matchup
After missing one game, LaNorris Sellers will reportedly be back for South Carolina this weekend.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel noted Sellers being back as the starting quarterback for the Gamecocks on their depth chart on Monday. That suggests his return is coming this weekend after a one-outing absence when they host another conference opponent in Ole Miss.
“South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers is back for the Gamecocks this week after missing the Akron game with a sprained ankle,” Thamel tweeted this afternoon. “He’s listed atop the depth chart as the Gamecocks host Ole Miss.”
South Carolina is coming off of their bye week following a 50-7 win over the Zips. Robby Ashford started in Sellers’ place in that one as he went 15-21 (71.4%) for 243 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 133 yards, good for 8.3 a carry, and another score as the team’s leading passer and rusher in the victory.
That means Sellers has had almost three weeks off after leaving the loss to LSU. He didn’t come back for the second half after an ankle injury against the Tigers.
In two and a half games this season, Sellers is 29-53 (54.7%) for 393 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has also ran for 145 yards and three more scores.
South Carolina won their last game in the non-conference with their serviceable backup playing in place of their starter. Now, the Gamecocks will return to league play against a top opponent with Sellers looking like he’ll be coming back for the matchup with the Rebels this weekend.
