All season long, there have been a ton of upsets and surprises across college basketball. So far in the NCAA Tournament, that has held true. Many highly ranked teams have been upset over the first weekend of March Madness. The first two rounds of the tournament are in the books, and there are now updated odds for the national championship entering the Sweet 16.

In the West region, notable upsets in the first round were 12th-seeded New Mexico State over 5th-seeded UConn and 11th-seeded Notre Dame over 6th-seeded Alabama. In the second round, the top four seeds – Gonzaga, Duke, Texas Tech, and Arkansas – all advanced to the Sweet 16.

In the East region, there were more major upsets. 15th-seeded Saint Peter’s took down 2nd-seeded Kentucky in the opening round, and the Peacocks then defeated Murray State to advance to the NCAA Tournament’s second weekend. North Carolina took down top seeded Baylor in the second round, as well. In the East, North Carolina, UCLA, Purdue, and Saint Peter’s are in the Sweet 16.

The South region has been maybe one of the most predictable so far. The only two lower seeded teams to win in the opening round was 9th-seeded TCU over 8th-seeded Seton Hall and 11th-seeded Michigan over 6th-seeded Colorado. The Wolverines then went on to beat 3rd-seeded Tennessee, setting up a matchup with Villanova in the Sweet 16. Houston also beat Illinois, setting up an intriguing matchup against Arizona. The South region is also highly ranked when it comes to championship odds entering the Sweet 16.
