In the offseason, Oklahoma saw former head coach Lincoln Riley depart, taking star quarterback Caleb Williams and multiple other key contributors with him to the USC Trojans. Former Heisman favorite Spencer Rattler also departed, leaving UCF transfer Dillon Gabriel at quarterback for the Sooners.
Texas, meanwhile, picked up a few key players from the transfer market, including former Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Last year, Oklahoma State finished at the top of the conference with a 12-2 overall record and an 8-1 mark against Big 12 opponents. Baylor was also 12-2 but went 7-2 in conference games, while Oklahoma was 11-2 overall and 7-2 in conference. There was a big drop off from there, with Iowa State finishing in fourth with a 7-6 overall record and a 5-4 mark in conference. Kansas State went 8-5 overall and 4-5 in the Big 12.
West Virginia is coming off of a 6-7 season that saw a 4-5 conference record. Texas was a big letdown last season, as the Longhorns missed out on a bowl game after going 5-7 overall and 3-6 in conference. TCU finished with the same record as the Longhorns, and now the Horned Frogs move forward without Gary Patterson.
Texas Tech went 7-6 overall but just 3-6 in the Big 12. Kansas finished at the bottom of the standings, going 2-10 overall and 1-8 against conference opponents.
