Las Vegas updates Heisman Trophy race entering 2022 season
The 2021 Heisman race was a rollercoaster right until the very end with a wildly different outcome than Las Vegas oddsmakers predicted heading into the season. The odds are out for the 2022 Heisman Trophy and amongst the favorites are a handful of returning star quarterbacks.
The Alabama Crimson Tide achieved the impressive back-to-back Heisman feat in the 2021 season. Now, Bryce Young has the opportunity to be the first back-to-back Heisman winner since Archie Griffin in 1974-75. He leads the odds race for 2022 at +250.
Trailing Bryce Young in the odds is Ohio State star C.J. Stroud. Stroud put an exclamation point on his 2021 season with a six-touchdown performance in the Rose Bowl. That showing put the Buckeyes youngster at the top of mind for the Heisman in 2022. He finished fourth in the 2021 voting behind Young, Aidan Hutchinson and Kenny Pickett. On the receiving end of three of those touchdowns, Jaxson Smith-Njigba is also listed in the early odds.
Brand new USC quarterback Caleb Williams comes in at No. 3 in Vegas’ favorites for the Heisman in 2022. After winning the job in Norman, Williams threw for 1,912 yards and scored 27 total touchdowns as OU closed the year with an 11-2 record. He’ll attempt to do all that and more with Lincoln Riley in L.A. this season.

A pair of Texas Longhorns also made the top five for the 2022 Heisman Trophy. Returning starting running back Bijan Robinson comes in fourth in the odds at +1600, followed by his new teammate, quarterback Quinn Ewers. Ewers transferred to UT from Ohio State in the winter.
