On Thursday morning, ESPN announced that Lee Corso will be making his final appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay in Week 1 of the 2025 campaign. ESPN hasn’t announced where the College GameDay crew will be traveling for the highly anticipated event yet, but CBS Sports’ Danny Kanell provided a passionate recommendation.

“The only choice for Lee Corso’s final College Gameday location is Tallahassee,” Kanell wrote on X. “Aug 30th. Bama at FSU. Do the right thing.”

As a Florida State alum, Kanell’s suggestion could be considered a bit biased. After all, Florida State was one of the most disappointing teams in the country last season, finishing the year with a 2-10 overall record just one year after going 13-1.

Kanell’s suggestion draws more criticism when considering Ohio State and Texas, two teams that met in the College Football Playoff semifinals last season, are having a rematch in Week 1. Alas, this isn’t the first time Kanell has voiced his ACC support.

Last year, Kanell tore into the CFP selection committee after they removed Miami from top 12 of the CFP Rankings. He only piled on the insults after Alabama lost to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

“People actually ‘thought’ Bama was one of the Top 12 teams in college football. That is exactly why teams have to EARN their way in,” Kanell wrote.

In fairness, Corso is a Florida State alum, and it could be a homecoming event for the college football legend. Nonetheless, it’s expected by many that the ESPN crew will end up at Ohio Stadium on Aug. 30.

No matter where the College GameDay crew travels to, all eyes will be on Corso for his final show. The 89-year-old icon has been hosting the beloved show since 1993. Now, he will put on a mascot head and raise his hands high for one final time.

“ESPN has been exceptionally generous to me, especially these past few years,” Corso said. “They accommodated me and supported me, as did my colleagues in the early days of College GameDay. Special thanks to Kirk Herbstreit for his friendship and encouragement.

“And lest I forget, the fans…truly a blessing to share this with them. ESPN gave me this wonderful opportunity and provided me the support to ensure success. I am genuinely grateful.”

On Aug. 30, ESPN’s special edition of College GameDay will include reflections on Corso’s illustrious career and, of course, entertaining insight from the man himself. Show details will be announced in the coming months.
