Le'Veon Moss highlights top uncommitted running backs in 2022
College football’s early signing period is less than three months away, but plenty of talented players are still on the board, including a quartet of uncommitted running backs in the 2022 On300 rankings.
In total, 73 of the top 300 players in the country—just under 25 percent—have yet to announce their college commitments, but most of those will do so between now and December 15, when the first signing period officially opens. Skipping the spring semester of high school and enrolling early has become the norm in college football in recent years, with programs like Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma and others typically bringing in more than a dozen players after the semester break.
Four of the top five players in the 2022 class have yet to commit, including No. 1 overall player Marvin Jones Jr. On3 compiled notes and intel on all 73 uncommitted On300 prospects to keep you informed about where each player stands in their recruiting process.

Ranking: On300 No. 39

Latest intel: Moss committed to Alabama in early June but then decided to back off that decision in mid-August. Hometown LSU has made a big push, and he was on campus for Tigers’ game against McNeese State Sept. 11. Of the four schools pursuing him most heavily, Ole Miss is the only one yet to get an official visit.

Latest intel: Little is certain in Barnes’ recruitment. He unofficially visited Florida State, Texas A&M, LSU, Oklahoma and Ole Miss this summer, but his lone official visit scheduled right now Alabama on October 2. The Crimson Tide are looking for a second running back commit after Le’Veon Moss’ decommitment, and Barnes looks to be at the top of their list.
Major Everhart
Background: Amarillo (Texas) Tascosa
Ranking: On300 No. 216
Schools considering: Notre Dame, TCU, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech
Latest intel: Everhart took most of his official visits over the summer, but a late-July offer from Notre Dame caught his attention. He recently tripped to South Bend, which he called a “10 out of 10.”
George Pettaway
Background: Suffolk (Va.) Nansemond-Suffolk Academy
Ranking: On300 No. 296
Schools considering: Penn State, Florida, North Carolina, Oregon
Latest intel: Pettaway is announcing his commitment tonight, and all signs point toward North Carolina. The Tar Heels rely heavily on good running backs, and Javonte Williams exemplified that last season, racking up more than 1,400 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns. He was taken 35th overall by the Denver Broncos in the 2021 NFL Draft.
