Due to the effects of Hurricane Helene, Liberty vs. Appalachian State has been canceled ahead of the game this weekend.

The Flames and Mountaineers announced the decision on social media and a release on Friday. As such, the matchup between them will be not rescheduled this season.

“App State’s home football game scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, against Liberty is canceled due to severe impacts to App State, the town of Boone and surrounding areas caused by Hurricane Helene. The game will not be rescheduled,” read the release by App State. “Friday’s home field hockey game against Bellarmine is also canceled. Details on football ticket implications will be communicated as soon as possible.”

Liberty and App State were supposed to kick off at 3:30 ET on Saturday from Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone. However, the game between two of the top teams in the Group of Five will not take place at all now this fall.

This could end up affecting Liberty in their hopes of making the College Football Playoff. On3’s Massey Ratings had them as a favorite in win probability in all dozen of their games this season. This matchup was supposed to be their closest one of those and a win could have justified them best to be the No. 12 seed assuming they ran the table. Instead, the best they could do now is 11-0 in the regular season and then 12-0 after winning the Conference USA Championship. Undefeated would still be undefeated but one less game could have an effect on their case.

As for Appalachian State, they were looking to get right after a 34-point home loss in their last game against South Alabama. They’ll now have to go right back into play in the Sun Belt from here.

Stanford updates its travel plans for Clemson due to Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene is forcing some major changes to the college football calendar in Week 5.

Stanford is one of the teams that have felt the impact the most in their plans.

The Cardinal is supposed to head to Clemson this weekend but they’ve had a variety of travel issues. Their flight was canceled on Thursday but, according to Andrea Adelson of ESPN, Stanford is heading to the airport on Friday afternoon to try again. The word now is they’ll make it in time to play on Saturday.

“Stanford had boarded its plane and sat on the tarmac waiting for takeoff before its flight was canceled yesterday. Buses are set to leave campus to head back to the airport at 1 ET, and flight is on as scheduled,” Adelson reported. “Remember, Stanford was at Syracuse last week. Not ideal!”
