LOOK: Dan Mullen makes his Week 3 picks, including several interesting upsets
Another week of college football means another week of picks across the country. With several big matchups slated for Friday and Saturday, ESPN’s Dan Mullen has released a first look at some of his picks for some of the weekend’s best games.
Amongst Mullen’s eight picks, he has five AP Top-25 teams winning. However, he does have some surprises amongst his selections that he tweeted out this morning.
First, Mullen has Florida State going to Louisville and winning what should be a tight ACC contest this evening. As you look, no real surprises come after that with wins for Oklahoma, BYU, Penn State, or NC State.
Mullen then has two picks that are eye-catchers with wins for Mississippi State and Washington. The Bulldogs head to Baton Rouge this weekend to face LSU. While Mike Leach’s team is 2-0, winning on the road in the SEC is a tall task. He has done it once already in Death Valley, though, in what was his debut game as Mississippi State’s head coach in 2020. Meanwhile, he also has 2-0 Washington pulling the upset on Michigan State. Michael Penix Jr. versus Payton Thorne should be an underrated QB battle this week that Mullen has Penix Jr. winning.

Finally, he has Miami winning their primetime matchup against Texas A&M. The Aggies may be leaning to switch from Haynes King to Max Johnson, but the jury’s still out on Jimbo Fisher’s team as of now. That leaves the Hurricanes in a great position to potentially go into College Station and get a Top-25 win.
Mullen joins Kevin Connors and Sam Acho for ESPN’s college football coverage on ESPN2. Based on these selections, he has an interesting first look at what should be another great weekend of college football kicking off tonight with the Seminoles at the Cardinals.
