Some of the country’s most ferocious recruiting battles every year go down in the state of Texas. And this year is no different. A year after Texas A&M brought in the highest-ranked recruiting class in history, rival Texas has put together a bumper crop of its own.

But if there’s one area where the Longhorns would like to add another elite prospect, it’s at linebacker. Enter Denton (Texas) Ryan five-star linebacker Anthony Hill. The nation’s No. 1 player at his position, Hill chose the Aggies over Texas in late July. But that hasn’t stopped the Longhorns — or their commits — from trying to flip him.

On Wednesday, four-star Texas wide receiver commit Johntay Cook made a pitch of his own on Twitter.

“@thegoatanthony1 it ain’t too late,” Cook wrote, tagging Hill’s account.

While Hill chose Aggieland over Austin, it was Cook who spurned Texas A&M for the rival Longhorns when he committed at the end of June. He has been part of a dynamo recruiting class that features Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Arch Manning, On3’s No. 1 running back Cedric Baxter, and five-star safety Derek Williams.

Texas’ commits are from satisfied, though. In addition to Cook pitching Hill, Manning took to Instagram, a place where he’s amassed more than 100K followers despite only one post, to make his case for four-star wide receiver Jalen Hale joining up with him in Austin. Hale is down to Alabama, Texas and Texas A&M with a decision expected next week.

As for Hill, he still remains committed to the Aggies, who currently rank No. 16 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. But with Texas A&M off to a slow start this year, programs (and their commits) aren’t giving up on him until the ink dries on a signature.
