Elite 2027 QB Peyton Houston has record-setting night with more than 800 yards, 10 total TDs

Cotton Valley (La.) Evangel Christian Academy 2027 quarterback Peyton Houston rewrote the record books on Friday night in one of the best all-time passing performances not only in Louisiana high schools football, but nationally.

Houston’s Evangel squad fell in a 77-76 — yes, you read that right — overtime heartbreaker to Captain Shreve. But the quarterback many consider to be the rest in the sophomore class nationally did everything he could and then some.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder completed 49 of 67 passing attempts for 767 yards and eight touchdowns while also rushing for two more scores. Houston also rushed for 101 yards.

The passing yardage mark is second all-time nationally, according to On3’s Jerit Roser (Pennsylvania’s Matt Miller threw for 787 in 2015). The 49 completions are tied for fifth-ever nationally and the 10 touchdowns are tied for 12th.

Houston isn’t currently ranked by On3, as full sophomore recruiting rankings don’t come out until the spring of players’ sophomore seasons.

But despite his young age, Houston has already racked up more than 20 scholarships offers, including Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and more than a dozen others.

Through six games, Houston has now racked up 2,548 passing yards and 22 passing touchdowns.

Houston just starting his recruiting process

While those early offers have come in, Houston has a long way to go before his recruitment his finalized. He won’t sign with a school for more than two years, and is still getting his feet wet in the recruiting process.

Houston took spring visits to Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, USC, and Oklahoma. Those are some of the schools who are standing out early with offers to him.

He returned to Austin for the UTSA game earlier this fall as well.

“I love the Texas offense,” he told InsideTexas.com. “Coach Sark runs a Pro-Style offense but it has some Air Raid elements to it as well. His offense attacks space and gets the ball in the hands of the playmakers quickly.“

Their arch rivals in Norman have also made him a top early priority. He was back at OU last month for the Tennessee game and hears from the Sooners’ staff consistently.

“I love it, we communicate almost everyday,” Houston told SoonerScoop.

The home-state Tigers will be a major threat in his recruitment as well as a Louisiana kid.

“It’s been a blessing,” he told The Bengal Tiger last week. “I’ve been talking to coach Sloan since my seventh-grade year and just been going through (the process) since. He told me, ‘You’ve just gotta get three games of high school film out,’ so I’ve just been working. God blessed me with the ability to play football. The first three games were pretty good. The fourth one was probably a pretty good one too. And then he called my dad the next morning.”
