Louisiana-Monroe assistant coach Cameron Blankenship has made headlines following the team’s loss to Marshall on Saturday. Blankenship was upset with offensive lineman Drew Hutchinson, making contact with him while upset. While the moment eventually cooled off, it was not something you usually see on a football sideline.

A statement has since been released by Louisiana-Monroe, condemning Blankenship’s actions. The Warhawks plan on handling the matter internally but will discipline the coach for his actions.

“In Saturday’s game at Marshall, Assistant Coach Cameron Blankenship made physical contact with a ULM student-athlete on the sideline,” the statement said. “This behavior is unacceptable and not how ULM football conducts business. There will be disciplinary action taken against the assistant coach. Because this is a personnel matter, the discipline will be handled internally.”

Blankenship is in his first season as the ULM offensive line coach after previously working at New Mexico. His coaching career got started at UAB as the assistant strength coach before moving over to the offensive line in 2022. ULM hiring Blankenship has made it three different spots in as many years.

In the moment when Blankenship lost his cool, Hutchinson was seen subbing into the game and his coach was not too happy with the move. Suddenly, Hutchinson was retreating back to the sideline and went back to rejoin his teammates. Before even turning around, Blankenship was in his face.

There was some contact between the two, with Blankenship absolutely losing his mind. While the interaction nearly went to another level, a couple of Louisiana-Monroe players intervened and got the coach away from the player.

ESPN’s broadcast of the game was showing a replay and when they went back live, Blankenship was talking to Hutchinson in a more calm demeanor. You can check out the entire moment here where thankfully, nothing escalated too much.
