Louisiana-Monroe DC Earnest Hill takes shot at Arch Manning ahead of matchup with Texas
With uncertainty surrounding the Texas quarterback position following an abdominal injury to starter Quinn Ewers, the possibility that backup quarterback Arch Manning could see a start is very real.
And at least Louisiana-Monroe, Texas’ upcoming opponent, doesn’t seem particularly worried about facing Manning.
Defensive coordinator Earnest Hill spoke out on the possibility of facing Manning on Saturday, noting there’s some crossover from some of his players and Manning from the high school days. Manning, of course, played in New Orleans at Isidore Newman.
“We actually have some kids on our team who played against him in New Orleans, and a couple guys done beat him already,” Hill said. So, they don’t hold too much fear against him. So, they’re not gonna hold any fear against him coming up here.”

Arch Manning came on in relief of Ewers after he was lifted with the abdominal injury in the second quarter of a game against UTSA. He played well in relief.
The former top-notch high school prospect went 9-of-12 passing for 223 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 53 yards and a score, flashing some real wheels by reaching almost 21 miles per hour on his touchdown run.
On the season, Arch Manning has been up to the task. He has thrown for 318 yards and five touchdowns, without throwing an interception. He has run for 53 yards and two scores.

“I think Ewers, only thing he has on Manning is he has played more games,” Hill said. “And Manning, he’s been raised to be a quarterback. His uncle, both his uncles, very successful so he’s been taught the right way. He’s been at every quarterback camp.
“Again, he’s at Texas for a reason and it’s an opportunity for him to actually start a game and see what he can do.”
Prior to enrolling at Texas, Manning was ranked as a five-star prospect and the No. 1 overall prospect in the nation in the 2023 recruiting class. He also checked in as the top overall quarterback in the class and the No. 1 overall player from the state of Louisiana, hailing from New Orleans (LA) Isidore Newman.
Texas and Louisiana-Monroe are slated to meet at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be carried on SECN+ and ESPN+.
