The Louisiana TechOle Miss baseball game ended in extremely controversial fashion on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs led Ole Miss 5-4 in the top of the 7th inning, but the game was cancelled due to lightning. And it should be noted that the Rebels decided to not bring their tarp out onto the field. Due to the weather cancellation, the final score reverted back to the last complete inning, which Ole Miss led 4-3 through six. Rightfully so, Louisiana Tech head coach Lane Burroughs was furious at the end of the game.

Louisiana Tech head coach Lane Burroughs was obviously angry

On Thursday afternoon, he let Sean Fox of Fox4SportsTalk know that he won’t be scheduling the Rebels anymore as long as he’s the head man for the Bulldogs.

“We won’t be scheduling Ole Miss again in the regular season as long as I’m the coach here.”

That’s quite a strong stance, but considering the circumstances of the game, it’s easy to see why he’s so upset.

Burroughs was irate on Wednesday following the cancellation and had every right to be.

“We’ve offered up to come back and play. We don’t care. I mean, we’re Louisiana Tech. We’ll come back and we’ll play three innings. We’ll drive back up here. We kinda got pushback on that one as well. So, we’ll see what happens,” the Louisiana Tech head coach said.

Burroughs was clearly upset with the Rebels’ decision to not tarp their field, despite it pouring rain. Because if they did tarp it, it might have changed the outcome of the game for Louisiana Tech.

“But you know. The decision to not tarp the field and to start the game. We could have started it earlier today. There’s a lot of layers. It’s unfortunate and it’s disappointing. But it is what it is. We’re kind of at the mercy of them because of home field,” Burroughs said.

Since the Bulldogs lost on Wednesday night, they split the series to the Rebels 1-1. Up next, Louisiana Tech will face Northwestern on Friday, March 3rd.
