Louisiana Tech kicker Buck Buchanan plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Louisiana Tech kicker Buck Buchanan plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to Matt Zenitz of 247sports.com. The preseason all-conference selection made two 55-plus yard field goals this year, including a school record 57-yarder against the NC State Wolfpack.

He hit 13 of his 20 kicks this season, including 2 of 4 from 50-yards and beyond. Buchanan was also 29 of 31 on his extra points. Buchanan drilled 5 of his 7 kicks from 20-29 yards and 4 of 5 kicks from 30-39 yards out. He earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors multiple times in the 2024 campaign.

As a freshman in 2022, he led all C-USA freshmen in kickoff yards (4,199) and touchbacks (34). He also ranked third among all NCAA freshmen in kickoff yards and fourth among all freshmen in touchbacks. Buchanan also went five of 5 of 7 on his field goal attempts. His 52-yard field goal that he drilled tied as the 10th longest in program history in the win over UTEP (10/08/22).

Buchanan played his high school football for Marshall High School (Longview, Texas), where he was one of the Top 12 kickers at the Kohl’s National Kicking Showcase in summer of 2020. He was also tabbed as the No. 17 kicker in the country by Kohl’s.
