Former Louisville Cardinals cornerback Marcus Washington has a new home for the 2024 season. Washington took to social media to reveal that he is remaining in the ACC after committing to play for the Syracuse Orange this season.

This was Washington’s second go-round with the transfer portal. He originally started his career off at Georgia and was a part of their second national championship run for the 2022 season. At Georgia, he saw action in one game with the Bulldogs against the Bulldogs of Samford University. Washington would be credited with one assisted tackle in the contest.

At Louisville, Washington played in all 14 of the Cardinals’ games. However, he was primarily used on special teams, logging 132 special team snaps.

Washington played his high school football at Grovetown High School and Grovetown, GA, a small town just West of Augusta. He would commit to playing for Kirby Smart at Georgia during the summer of 2021 as a member of the 2022 recruiting class. Washington was an elite four-star prospect with a 94.1 rating. He was a top 300 recruit, ranking No. 110 nationally. He was also ranked No. 14 among cornerbacks and No. 10 in terms of talent coming out of Georgia in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

In high school, Washington reclassified to play in the 2022 prep season, recording 48 tackles, one sack, and two fumble recoveries as a senior, also returning 14 kickoffs for 200 yards and showing off his speed as a track and field standout.

“Among the more athletic top cornerbacks in the 2023 cycle. Consistently turns in sub-11.0 second 100-meter times with a personal best of 10.76 as a sophomore. Also tests as a top athlete in the combine setting,” On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power said regarding Washington out of high school. “Pairs that athleticism with good size at 6-foot, 180 pounds. Primarily plays as a corner and safety for his high school. Shows some physicality as a run defender and on special teams. Relatively low impact in other phases of the game compared to other top corners who often play on both sides of the ball. Will need to continue improving his ball skills and overall playmaking ability.”
