Louisville injury updates: Jeff Brohm shares multiple season-ending decisions for Cardinals
Injuries took a toll on the Louisville roster after Week 4, with head coach Jeff Brohm sharing a spate of injury updates ahead of a Week 5 showdown with Notre Dame. And that includes a key playmaker.
Wideout Jadon Thompson is out for the season with a knee injury, Brohm said. This comes after the Cardinals already lost Caullin Lacy, the No. 1 option entering the year, to a short-term injury to open the year.
“Well like everyone, we had a little bit of injury this past week and Jadon will be out for the year with a knee injury,” Brohm said.
Thompson had six catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns in three games for the Cardinals.

Along with Thompson, Brohm shared updates on another trio of injured players: Special teamer and defensive back DK Saunders, defensive back Quincy Riley and running back Maurice Turner.
“DK Saunders on the special teams will be out for the year with a knee injury and Quincy [Riley] will be a game time decision and Maurice [Turner], we’ll see,” Brohm said. “I’m not optimistic.”
Without Thompson, Saunders and potentially others, Brohm will be looking for others to step up — and be ready for potentially more injuries.
“But we’ll continue to work through that and those things happen and that’s why you’ve gotta have depth and other guys have to practice every week like they’re going to be on the field every play,” Brohm said. “If they are, great. If they’re not, they need to keep practicing every day like their number’s called because it will be called throughout the course of the year and definitely this game we’ll have some new pieces out there and they’ll have to perform well.”
Lacy could return soon for Louisville
After missing the start of the season for Louisville, Lacy will be a game-time decision this weekend in South Bend according to Brohm.

Brohm updated Lacy’s status during his press conference on Monday. The Cardinals will be doing what they can to potentially have him ready for kickoff on Saturday in the Top 20 matchup against Notre Dame. The video player is currently playing an ad.Skip Ad
“Caullin – we’re going to continue to try to get ready,” said Brohm. “It’ll be a game-time deal.”
Lacy broke his collarbone over fall camp with the Cards. That set a reported timetable for him around six to eight weeks at the time. This would be almost to or around to the six-week mark in his recovery.
Lacy was the top-rated additions in the transfer portal for Louisville. He was the No. 4 WR and No. 37 overall player in On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players this offseason. That was from being a 2,500-plus yard receiver over a four-year career at South Alabama as he caught 207 passes for 13 touchdowns. That included his last season with the Jaguars where he was one of the nation’s leading receivers with 91 receptions for 1,316 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Over the three games for the Cardinals, Ja’Corey Brooks, another transfer from Alabama, has been the top target in the pass game. He has caught 17 passes for 298 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Chris Bell and Thompson have also produced with a dozen catches combined for 255 yards in total and two touchdowns apiece.
Those lead an offense, led by Tyler Shough, that’s throwing for 308 yards as part of 502.3 overall on average as they’re scoring 47.3 ppg..
Lacy would be a plus if he was able to return to play the Fighting Irish. Brohm just isn’t certain that he will yet to start this week.
“I do not know yet whether that’ll take place or not but we will do our best,” Brohm said.
