Tuesday’s ranked Kentucky vs. UL baseball game has been postponed following Monday’s mass shooting in Louisville, the teams have announced.

Four people were killed and nine were injured after a shooting occurred at a bank in downtown Louisville. The officers that responded to the call neutralized the suspected shooter, who was a former employee of the bank.

The four people who were killed were all employees of the bank — Tommy Elliott, 63, Jim Tutt, 64, Josh Barrick, 40 and Juliana Farmer, 57, according to WLKY in Louisville.

When the matchup eventually happens, it will see a No. 10-ranked Kentucky (27-5) team that is off to its best start in program history, while Louisville (24-7) is ranked No. 12 and in a spot they’re all too used to. The Cards will look to put their in-state rivals in their place when they meet on the diamond.

More on Kentucky vs. Louisville baseball matchup

Kentucky is coming off its first SEC series loss of the season after dropping two of three to the unranked Georgia Bulldogs. The Wildcats took the first game of the series before game two was postponed due to weather conditions in Athens. The two teams played a double-header on Sunday that saw Georgia outscore Kentucky 9-2, taking home both victories in the process.

The Bat Cats will head to Baton Rouge for a three-game series against top-ranked LSU beginning on Thursday.

For the Cardinals, they’re coming off a sweep of No. 7 Boston College at home. They’ll be staying in town for this weekend’s series against Wake Forest, which will get started Friday night unless noted otherwise. Amid Monday morning’s tragic shooting, a city in mourning might need a little more time to heal before prioritizing baseball.

Historically, Louisville has won five of the last six matchups against the Wildcats, including the last two. Kentucky’s last win came in 2021, but the Cards have dominated the series for the most part over the past decade. Overall, Kentucky has the all-time series edge with 26 wins compared to 25 losses.
