In a primetime matchup against two teams undefeated in SEC play, LSU is a 1.5-point underdog at Texas A&M

In a potential College Football Playoff elimination game, two teams atop the SEC standings will battle in primetime in College State as No. 14 Texas A&M hosts No. 8 LSU

Both programs are undefeated in conference play, with the Tigers coming off a blowout win over Arkansas, while the Aggies slipped past Mississippi State last weekend. This is a strength (LSU’s offensive line, which has allowed just 2.0 sacks all season) on strength (Texas A&M’s defensive line, which ranks 25th nationally in pressure rate) matchup, so which unit hold the advantage come the end of the night?

Kickoff for LSU at Texas A&M is set for 7:30 p.m. on ABC.

FINAL: Texas A&M 38, LSU 23.

10/26/2024, 11:29:34 PM

Mike Elko’s decision to bench Conner Weigman for Marcel Reed early in the third quarter proved brilliant, as the Aggies went 5-for-5 on scoring drives with the freshman quarterback to turn a 17-7 deficit into a 38-23 comeback win.
Texas A&M is now alone atop the SEC standings and looks like a scary College Football Playoff team.

‘This place is unhinged.’

10/26/2024, 11:08:17 PM

Kyle Field is on fire after Texas A&M picked off Garrett Nussmeier for the third time in the second half, possibly sealing a crazy turnaround for the Aggies.

Texas A&M is suddenly unstoppable

10/26/2024, 11:02:52 PM

Four Marcel Reed drives = Four touchdowns. The Aggies answered LSU’s scoring drive in a flash, going four plays and 75 yards in less than two minutes. Reed had a 54-yard pass to Noah Thomas to open the drive, and then Le’Veon Moss punched it in from 3-yards out two plays later.

The Tigers have ZERO answers for Reed’s legs.

Texas A&M 35, LSU 23.

LSU answers, another one-score game

10/26/2024, 10:51:22 PM

Relying solely on Garrett Nuussmeier’s arm until a 1-yard plunge from the quarterback on 3rd-and-goal, the Tigers made it a game again in College Station. They went nine plays on 78 yards — 77 coming through the air. The two-point conversion failed, so it remains a four-point game.

LSU is totally one-dimensional offensively, but when Nussemier is right and the OL can pass protect, the Tigers can torch teams with their elite set of playmakers.

Texas A&M 27, LSU 23.

Marcel Reed finds the end zone again

10/26/2024, 10:41:10 PM

LSU looks like it has never defended a read-option play before, as Texas A&M is gashing the Tigers’ front with a heavy dose zone-reads. Marcel Reed is magician with the mesh-point, and found the end zone for a third time to give TAMU a 10-point lead. Mike Elko’s decision to bench Conner Weigman for Marcel Reed has totally turned this game upside down.

Texas A&M 27, LSU 17.

Penalty wipes TAMU TD off the board

10/26/2024, 10:38:08 PM

Le’Veon Moss looked to score a 7-yard touchdown run, but officials ruled targeting on a blindside block to negate the score.

Tigers toast?

10/26/2024, 10:27:53 PM

Garrett Nussmeier just threw a second horrible interception inside Texas A&M’s 25 yard line, and the Aggies are set to expand their lead at the start of the fourth quarter.

Aggies stick with Reed at QB, take the lead

10/26/2024, 10:22:32 PM

Talk about a spark. Texas A&M’s run game is cooking with dual-threat Marcel Reed at QB. The Aggies just went on a seven-play, 60-yard touchdown drive — ALL RUNS — capped by a 8-yard quarterback draw on 3rd-and-4 for the go-ahead score. Reed now has 40 yards on four carries. The Tigers are suddenly on the ropes in College Station.

Texas A&M 21, LSU 17.

More special teams miscues by LSU

10/26/2024, 10:17:44 PM

Aggies linebacker Scoobie Williams delivered a clean, violent hit on 3rd-and-7 to breakup a would-be first down. And after Za’Vion Thomas’ drop, LSU’s special bothered the snap on a field goal attempt — the third miscue on field goal operations tonight already. The Tigers’ three-point lead holds.

Kyren Lacy is feasting on 3rd down

10/26/2024, 10:13:59 PM

LSU’s receiver has five receptions for 106 yards — with three of the catches coming on 3rd-and-long tonight. With LSU facing another 3rd-and-10 coming out of a timeout, can Lacy covert again?

TAMU cashes in pick for a TD

10/26/2024, 10:04:37 PM

One play has totally changed the tenor of this game. After Garrett Nussmeier’s interception, Texas A&M inserted Marcel Reed at quarterback and the freshman had a designed eight-yard run for a score to cut the deficit to three. Kyle Field is now ALIVE.

The keeper was perfectly blocked on the perimeter, too.

LSU 17, Texas A&M 14.

Garrett Nussmeier with a bad INT

10/26/2024, 10:03:05 PM

LSU’s quarterback has been magnificent tonight, but he tried to force a throw that wasn’t there — and the ugly INT to BJ Mayes has instantly breathed some life into Texas A&M. Mayes returned the pick 27 yards to LSU’s 7-yard line.

LSU now with four sacks

10/26/2024, 9:53:40 PM

The Tigers are just winning one-on-one battles up front right now. They just sacked Conner Weigman for the fourth time today, with another four pressures.

Texas A&M starts cold in 3Q

10/26/2024, 9:47:44 PM

The Aggies came out of halftime with another fruitless drive, as Conner Weigman was sacked on a delayed blitz for a 7-yard loss to lead to another punt.

Conner Weigman is really struggling

10/26/2024, 9:17:51 PM

Texas A&M opted to throw for it on 4th-and-3 at LSU’s 42 yard line, but Conner Weigman’s pass was batted down at the LOS. The junior is now just 5 of 14 for 49 yards in the first half. Could Mike Elko turn to Marcel Reed for a spark coming out of halftime?

LSU misses another FG

10/26/2024, 9:08:53 PM

The Tigers have left the door open for Texas A&M to stay in this game despite doing next-to-nothing offensively. They’ve missed two field goals here in the first half.

Texas A&M in danger of getting run at home

10/26/2024, 9:05:07 PM

The Aggies just went 3-and-out again (Conner Weigman is just 3-of-10 for 38 yards) and now LSU is quickly driving for another score before halftime. The Aggies’ defense can’t touch Garrett Nussmeier right now, and he’s slicing up the secondary with throws from all arm angles.

Aaron Anderson goes ZOOM to the house

10/26/2024, 8:59:12 PM

On a simple crossing route, Garrett Nussmeier had his longest completion of the season for a 77-yard touchdown to Aaron Anderson. Texas A&M’s safety took a horrible angle, missing the tackle and watching the 5-8 speedster blow pas the defense untouched for a house-call.

LSU 17, Texas A&M 7.

Aggies mistakes starting to multiply

10/26/2024, 8:58:20 PM

Texas A&M is starting to shoot itself in the foot with self-inflicted errors in pass protection (busted assignment led to a sack), penalties (holding call, false start) and then a face-mask on defense.

LSU whiffs 48-yard FG

10/26/2024, 8:40:42 PM

A 10-play drive proved fruitless after the usually-reliable kicker Damian Ramos pushed a 48-yard field goal wide left. The hold was really poor, throwing off Ramos’ timing.

LSU gashing Texas A&M on third down

10/26/2024, 8:37:54 PM

The Tigers are driving once again, with Nussmeier carving up the Aggies’ defense on third downs. He’s completed a 3rd-and-15 that went for 33 yards to Kyren Lacy and later had a 21-yard pass to Lacy on 3rd-and-7.

Moss atones, Aggies answer

10/26/2024, 8:23:23 PM

Le’Veon Moss atoned for his fumble with a 37 yards rushing on four carries, capped by a 7-yard touchdown run to put Texas A&M on the board. The Aggies converted two key 3rd-and-longs on the drive — the first surprising LSU’s aggressive defense with a 11-yard run on 3rd-and-8.

LSU 10, Texas A&M 7.

Tigers turn takeaway into two-score lead

10/26/2024, 8:12:44 PM

LSU capitalized on Moss’ fumble, cashing in the short field into a quick touchdown drive. Garrett Nussmeier is heating up with some early dimes. He found tight end Mason Taylor, who dropped a perfect touchdown pass on the first play of the drive, in the back of the end zone on a short play-action fade to give the Tigers a 10-0 lead.

Le’Veon Moss fumbles

10/26/2024, 8:08:30 PM

LSU has leaned on takeaways this season, and Tigers safety Sage Ryan punched the ball out of Aggies’ star tailback Le’Veon Moss on a little screen pass. To make matters worse, Texas A&M was flagged for a personal foul after the playing, giving LSU another 10 yards and excellent field position (ball on TAMU 20-yard line).

LSU takes 3-0 lead

10/26/2024, 8:03:22 PM

The Tigers marched right down the field on their second drive, but the long possession (87 yards, over 5:25 off the clock) stalled inside the red zone after the Aggies bowed up. LSU had to settle for a field goal, but it stressed Texas A&M’s defense with a couple Caden Durham catches out of the backfield (two for 46) and three Justin Williams runs (14 yards). The Aggies had some tackle issues that need to get sorted out.

LSU’s defense answers back

10/26/2024, 7:52:21 PM

After a facesmask penalty gave Texas A&M a free first down, LSU quickly got off the field, sacking Conner Weigman (Bradyn Swinson has been a revelation for the Tigers this season) and then recording a TFL on tailback Le’Veon Moss.

Texas A&M is flying around early

10/26/2024, 7:47:58 PM

The Aggies’ ferocious defense recorded an early TFL and a Garrett Nussmeier panic throw on a 3-and-out to start the game.

Tigers set to get Chris Hilton Jr. back

10/26/2024, 3:53:59 PM

Explosive wideout Chris Hilton Jr. is set to make his 2024 debut after missing LSU’s first seven games with an ankle injury. Hilton has battled a variety of injuries throughout his career, limiting the senior to just 20 career games. But he averaged over 18 yards per catch in 2023.

Final LSU at Texas A&M spread, O/U

10/26/2024, 3:53:42 PM

The Tigers, ranked inside the Top 10, remain 1.5-point underdogs just before kickoff. The total on this game hasn’t budged all week, holding firm at 54.5.
