Biggest Takeaways for LSU vs South Carolina

Brian Kelly updated, although sarcastically, the statuses of three players for LSU ahead of kickoff tomorrow against UCLA.

Kelly shared the latest on the trio of Tigers during his press conference on Thursday. However, when asked about the injury report, he got his joke in with the reporter.

“We’re not giving one out! We don’t have to,” said Kelly emphatically. “That was sarcastic. I mean, it was – it’s not going to be seen that way. Obviously, it’s going to go out as, you know, Coach Kelly, you know, refused to give out the injury report but it’ll be our laugh right here.”

Kelly had to answer to an extent as this is the Tigers’ third non-conference game of the season. With that, LSU isn’t required to actually release an official injury report for their next game. They did last week in their league opener and will have to do so starting in October following their first bye once they start their schedule in the SEC.

To get into the actual update, Kelly defined two that look a little more set.

On the positive, Chris Hilton, their wide receiver who has missed each of the first three, is looking likely for tomorrow per Kelly. On the negative, though, Jalen Lee will miss the game as he deals with a shoulder injury.

“Let’s see – Chris Hilton is probable, Jalen Lee is out with a shoulder,” said Kelly.

As for a little more uncertainty, Kelly said West Weeks, a linebacker who has been dealing with matters since the preseason, is a game-time decision for tomorrow against the Bruins.

“Wes Weeks is questionable,” said Kelly. “He’ll be a gameday decision.”

Beyond that, Kelly says the Tigers are pretty healthy for tomorrow afternoon’s matchup with UCLA on ABC.

“Those are really the three guys,” said Kelly.

More on Chris Hilton’s probable return

Chris Hilton Jr. has been battling an ankle injury in the early part of the season which has made him miss their first three games. However, LSU did get some good news on Thursday after Brian Kelly updated his status in his press conference.

Kelly said that Hilton is probable to play in their next matchup vs. UCLA on Saturday.

If Hilton does play, he’ll slide in the rotation along with their other top receivers in Kyren Lacy and CJ Daniels.

In the past three years, Hilton has caught 22 passes for 415 yards and three touchdowns. That includes 13 catches for 225 yards and a pair of scores last season.

Hilton has shown explosiveness when healthy. That’s why Tiger fans certainly hope he can stay healthy and emerge as another productive weapon for them.
