LSU guard Tyrell Ward signs with VCU out of NCAA transfer portal

LSU guard Tyrell Ward has signed with VCU out of the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. Ward spent two seasons with the Tigers before transferring out.
He had a breakout campaign of sorts during the 2024-25 season for the Tigers. Ward started in 10 games, appearing in 31 total contests for LSU this season.
During that time, he averaged 9.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. He also notched 0.9 steals and 0.8 assists per game.
Tyrell Ward had some excellent stretches of play for the Tigers in 2024-25. He scored in double figures in seven of his last 11 games of the season, including a stretch of four straight games with double figures.
Standing 6 foot 6, Ward has terrific size and utilizes it to his advantage on the perimeter. He was an exceptionally sharp 3-point shooter, ending the y ear at a 41.3% clip from beyond the arc. And he did it on good volume, too, attempting 126 triples.
All of those factors will make Ward a quality addition for VCU. And none of it is a real shock coming out of high school.

LSU loses another guard to the portal
There’s been a good deal of attrition for Matt McMahon this offseason, including that of Tyrell Ward. Point guard Curtis Givens also entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned. He spent just one year with the Tigers.
Givens played 32 games as a freshman but had pedestrian stats, averaging 18.2 minutes per game. He had 4.8 points per game, 1.7 rebounds per game, 1.6 assists per game, shot 26.9% from the floor and 24.6% from three-point range.
As a member of the Class of 2024, Gives was a four-star recruit out of Memphis (Tenn.) Montverde Academy (Fla.), according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 10 overall prospect in the state, the No. 10 point guard in the class and the No. 61 overall prospect in the class.
