LSU-Ole Miss enters weather delay due to lightning in the area
SEC teams are battling weather all over the conference, hoping to get the final weekend series of the regular season played. Game times have been moved, most notably in Baton Rouge with LSU hosting Ole Miss. First pitch was at 4 p.m. CT but still, the Tigers and Rebels could not get the complete game in without a delay.
In the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs, LSU was up 5-1 over Ole Miss. Right before Michael Braswell could step into the batter’s box, a groundskeeper at Alex Box Stadium got the attention of the home plate umpire.
Unfortunately, lightning is within an eight-mile radius of the stadium, causing a delay. At least 30 minutes have to pass before the two teams can retake the field.
“We have entered a weather delay at Alex Box due to lightning within an 8-mile radius,” the official LSU Baseball account said via X at 5:46 p.m. CT. “Updates will be provided as we receive them.”
Three games are supposed to be played this weekend between the two sides, scheduled through Saturday. If there is any kind of delay, Sunday is open but you have to imagine both head coaches want to wrap things up as soon as possible.
Both will be traveling to Hoover for the SEC Tournament, which is slated to begin on Tuesday. Giving pitchers extra time to rest can be the difference between advancing or going home earlier than expected.

LSU hoping to get into NCAA Tournament to defend national title
Heading into the weekend, LSU was not in the NCAA Tournament according to On3’s Jonathan Wagner. He slated the Tigers under the ‘Next Four Out’ category, placing five teams ahead of them before earning an at-large bid. Not what head coach Jay Johnson had in mind off the back of a national championship.
Getting a series win against Ole Miss would be a step in the right direction, beginning with closing out Game 1 of the series whenever the weather passes.
Making some noise in Hoover would certainly help and of course, winning the SEC Tournament would earn LSU an automatic qualifier spot. Some big games are ahead of the Tigers and wins are required — otherwise, their season is going to end quite early.
