LSU scores commitment from DB Ashton Stamps
Ashton Stamps has been one of the offseason standouts as he turned heads at SEC campuses all over this summer. That includes the coaches up the road at LSU.
After camping in Baton Rouge and securing an offer last month, Stamps committed to the in-state Tigers on July 4. The three-star Metairie (La.) Rummel defensive back who checked in at 6-foot-1 and 183 pounds with a 4.5 40 at camp in June quickly shot up LSU’s board this summer as the staff turned up the heat on the New Orleans standout.
“It came pretty easy to me,” Stamps told On3. “It’s close to home and I always wanted to play at LSU. It’s a great school.”
“They’re making me feel like one of their top players, someone that can come in and play and be developed into a great DB. That put them up for me.”
Stamps, a top performer at LSU’s elite camp, returned to campuses a week later to get further acquainted with several staff members. That includes defensive back coaches Robert Steeples and Kerry Cooks, recruiting coordinator Brian Polian and defensive coordinator Matt House, who has spearheaded the push this summer.

“I’ve been comfortable with the coaches from the get-go,” Stamps said. “I’m gonna learn from them and develop me a person and as a player, and help me get to the league. I felt like they knew me, as a person. A lot of the coaches from down here and those relationships made it easy.”
“I love Coach House,” he continued. “Matt House’s energy is crazy. The way he goes about business, how he says things, and not just how he says it, but how he does it. I feel like I fit in over there.”
Stamps is position-versatile and can also play cornerback. He’s the No. 64-rated safety in the country on the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
