LSU and Alabama went into overtime and the drama continued with an incredible finish, as the Tigers went for a two-point conversion. Alabama scored first and made their extra point attempt to take a seven-point lead, and after quarterback Jayden Daniels answered with a touchdown run of his own — coach Brian Kelly made the wild decision to go for the win.

Daniels found freshman Mason Taylor on the outside for the game-winning catch on the two-point conversion, taking down No. 6 Alabama and taking control of the SEC West in Kelly’s first season with the Tigers.

Alabama falls to LSU off two-point conversion

LSU and Alabama went into overtime and the drama continued with a controversial pass interference call that was upheld after video review during Alabama’s drive. The Tigers were penalized for pass interference in the end zone on a third down throw by the Crimson Tide which gave Alabama a fresh set of downs on the goal line.

Immediately, LSU coach Brian Kelly took to the officials to protest the call because he claimed the ball was tipped by a defensive lineman which would negate the pass interference call. The officials went to review the play and determined there was not enough evidence to overturn the call — despite the replay seeming to show a lineman’s finger bending backwards as the ball passed over his hand.

The ball did not change trajectory according to the official review, and the call on the field stood.

Despite the major setback, Daniels and the Tigers offense wasted no time responding with a 25-yard run for a score by the quarterback. Instead of kicking the extra point and moving into a second overtime, Kelly made the call to leave his offense on the field to end it on their own terms.

The Alabama defense didn’t appear ready for the decision as they had too many men on the field before a timeout was called by Nick Saban to prepare for the attempt. Even after coming back from timeout, the Alabama defense had 12 men on the field again, although the extra player was able to sprint off the field at the last possible second. Unfortunately, the play worked as LSU drew it up and they took down the Crimson Tide in Baton Rouge.
