One of the biggest matchups of the opening weekend will take place in New Orleans, LA, with Florida State set to face off against LSU in the Allstate Louisiana Kickoff. The television information and kickoff time have been announced, with ABC having a broadcast with 6:30 CT being the scheduled start time on Sept. 4.

Set to take place on a Sunday night, the Seminoles and Tigers will be part of the extended Veteran’s Day weekend college football schedule. A normal slate will take place on Saturday night and Sunday will provide a standalone game for the two programs.

Both schools are hoping to get back on the right track this season and beginning the season with a quality Power Five win would be a good start. LSU head coach Brian Kelly will be on the sidelines for the first time after leaving Notre Dame. For Mike Norvell, he will be entering his third season and desperately needs to get some momentum with Florida State.

While Sept. 4 will be the first game of the season for LSU, Florida State begin its season a week earlier with a Week 0 matchup against Duquesne. An extra day of rest will benefit the Seminoles before heading to New Orleans. While it might be labeled as a neutral site matchup, the crowd is expected to have a lot of purple and gold, benefitting to Tigers.

LSU and Florida State have not played each other in over 30 years, with a 1991 regular season matchup being the last meeting. The Seminoles currently hold a four-game winning streak dating back to 1983.

While the programs may not be overly familiar with each other, Kelly faced off against Florida State five times as the head coach of Notre Dame. He’s won three straight with the 2021 season opener being the latest edition. Kelly will know how to match up against Norvell and vice versa. The logos may change but there will be familiarity within this matchup.
