He only spent one season at LSU, appearing in all 13 games as a true freshman. In the 2023 campaign, Hughes played 24 snaps at cornerback and 181 snaps on special teams. He was a part of the starting kickoff return, kickoff coverage and punt return units for the Tigers.
Jeremiah Hughes played high school football at Bishop Gorman (NV), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 435 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
LSU has lost 22 players to the transfer portal during or since the 2023 campaign. The team has also added seven players in the transfer portal this offseason. On Tuesday, the team suffered a devastating loss when running back John Emery Jr. entered the portal.

After missing all of 2021 due to academic reasons, Emery returned to have his best season in 2022. During those 11 games, he rushed 76 times for 375 yards and six touchdowns while also catching 13 passes for 129 yards and both of his reception scores.
As a fifth-year senior this past fall, Emery ran for 121 yards and a score on 23 attempts. However, after seven games, his season, and now time with the Tigers, came to an end after tearing his ACL in November.
Emery, a Louisiana native, played high school football at Destrehan High School. He was a five-star prospect there and the No. 12 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle.
