Former LSU linebacker Christian Brathwaite has announced his commitment to Houston out of the NCAA transfer portal.

Brathwaite played in five games for the Tigers in 2023. He redshirted his true freshman season in 2023, as the fifth game he played in was the bowl, which no longer counts toward the four games a player can play and still redshirt. He recorded three tackles in his five appearances.

Before enrolling at LSU, Brathwaite played high school football at Cy Ranch (Texas) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 400 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

Secrest, a native of Indianapolis, played high school football at Roncalli. He was a three-star prospect there as the was the No. 2,018 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also rated as a Top-175 IOL in the class and a Top-40 player out of Indiana.

Over this offseason, Secrest is one of 20-plus transfers to leave Louisville in the portal. All of those have since committed to new programs with this being the latest decision.

As for Houston, the Cougars have lost over 30 players during the two cycles combined. 16 of those are from the offense, 14 are from the defense, and another is one of their kickers. This comes amidst the coaching change for the program from Dana Holgorsen to Willie Fritz.

In turn, Houston has added 17 players in the portal to make up the No. 68 class per On3’s 2024 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. Seven of those are on the offensive side of the ball, including three interior offensive linemen. Secrest is one of those along with Dakota White (Louisiana Tech) and Jake Wiley (UCLA).
