Alabama went into Wisconsin and left Camp Randall as a big winner. In what was viewed as the first test for the Crimson Tide in the post-Nick Saban era, Kalen DeBoer‘s team passed with flying colors. On the other sideline, Luke Fickell was on the receiving end of what he called a “good ole fashion ass-whoopin’.”

“I’ll just give you guys the same message I gave to them,” Fickell said to the media. “If you haven’t had your ass whooped before, you just did. It hurts and it’s not easy but in this game, that’s going to happen. It’s a part of the game, it stinks.

“Doesn’t mean you didn’t work hard, didn’t mean you didn’t prepare. Means you didn’t get the job done. Whether it’s a one-point loss or a 34-point loss. It’s a good ole fashion ass-whoopin’ at home, which hurts.”

Wisconsin was able to drive down the field on their opening drive, doing well enough to kick a field goal and take a 3-0 lead. Alabama then had a similar possession but their kick went wide, giving the Badgers some momentum.

From there, Alabama outscored Wisconsin 42-7 in what turned out to be a route on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff. The only statistic the Badgers were better in was time of possession. But that’s because there were multiple quick-score possessions from Alabama.

Jalen Milroe wound up throwing for more yards than Wisconsin’s two quarterbacks — Tyler Van Dyke and Braedyn Locke — despite nine fewer attempts. He was also a huge threat on the ground, getting two rushing touchdowns. A total of 271 yards came from the Alabama signal-caller with five touchdowns. Never did he look uncomfortable, either.

On the other side, the Badger offense averaged under 4.0 yards per carry. Forty-one rushes for 149 yards is what Fickell would have wanted out of his backs/offensive line. Two turnovers were costly as well, turning into 14 points for the Crimson Tide.

Anywhere you look, Alabama was the superior team for all four quarters. A nice statement was made by DeBoer after questions were asked following the USF game.

Thankfully for Fickell, he will have some time to recoup and get his team ready to play again. A bye week is ahead of Wisconsin before playing their first Big Ten game of the 2024 season. A trip out West to USC takes place on Sept. 28 before facing a traditional Big Ten West foe, Purdue.
