Mac Markway set for busy recruiting weekend with visits to Iowa, Miami
Four-star tight end Mac Markway of St. Louis DeSmet is one of the nation’s most coveted tight end prospects. And one of the biggest reasons why coaches love him is his dedication to the weight room.
Mac Markway shared further evidence of his weight room exploits with a social media post on Tuesday. In the post, Markway shared two photos – one of his impressive wingspan and another of him flexing.
“Will be ready on day 1 to impact and help my future college team win games,” the caption from Mac Markway’s post said. “Dominate the line and routes!”
Mac Markway ready for busy weekend
Mac Markway was committed to Florida at one point. But he backed away from the pledge after the coaching transition in Gainesville. That opened the door for a lengthy list of schools to continue their pursuit of the 6-foot-4, 250-pounder.
Two schools that are high on Mac Markway will get him on campus for unofficial visits this weekend. He’ll start his weekend at Miami with his family before making the trip to Iowa City to see the Hawkeyes.
Iowa is expected to be a major player in Markway’s second recruitment. He is the son of former Iowa tight end Matt Markway, and the Hawkeyes have been pushing hard ever since he backed away from his original Florida pledge.
LeVar Woods is the main recruiter for Markway at Iowa. Markway’s father and Woods played together at Iowa and are good friends to this day. That’s a big factor in Markway’s decision. But he also wants to make his own decision, which is why Miami will also get a visit this weekend and other schools are still under consideration.

Michigan prepared to offer No. 1 recruit $10.5M over 4 years
One other school of note is LSU. On3’s Billy Embody talked with Mac Markway on Sunday about his interest in the Tigers’ program.
“LSU was always on my radar,” Markway told Embody. “I have a lot of family in Folsom, Mandeville and Covington. My family has spent a lot of time with coach (Brian) Kelly and coach (Brian) Pollian when they were at Notre Dame. Love having coach (Robert) Steeples there, too.”
Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, USC, and others are also in the mix. He plans to narrow down his visits at the end of January. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine still lists Florida as the favorite in his recruitment, but that will likely change with more unofficial visits on the calendar in the spring.
According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Markway ranks as the No. 121 overall prospect in the country, No. 9 tight end in the nation and No. 3 prospect in Missouri.
