Mack Brown has humorous interaction with Greg McElroy over national title defeat
Mack Brown and Greg McElroy have let bygones be bygones.
Even though McElroy handed Brown a 37-21 defeat while quarterbacking Alabama to victory over Brown’s Texas Longhorns in the 2010 BCS National Championship Game, the latter isn’t harboring any hard feelings.
During an appearance on McElroy’s Always College Football show, the now-North Carolina Tar Heels leader had a humorous interaction with the former Alabama quarterback, speaking to how special of an ambassador for college football Brown believes McElroy is.
“Greg, thanks for having me on. You beat us for a national championship and I still like you, so that’s a pretty good test of whether you like a guy as a friend or not,” began Brown. “You do a tremendous job of selling college football. You’ve been there, you’ve done that. You’ve played at a high level, you played at the toughest position. Because if you don’t have a quarterback you’re not going to win, and you won a national championship.
“So, you’re such a great person to be able to explain to our fans about college football, and who we are, where we’re going and what we’re doing. Really let them see behind the scenes what’s going on.”
Alas, McElroy was smitten with the compliment from Brown, even adding that he grew up a Texas fan before defeating Brown on the biggest stage of them all.

Alabama WR to transfer
“You’re going to make me blush, Coach,” responded McElroy. “I think it’s well documented that I was a die hard Texas Longhorns fan, so there are few people that know your career as well as I do, I feel like. I grew up going to the Red River Shootout, watching you guys play against Oklahoma every single year. I watched Vince Young grow up before my eyes and was celebrating like crazy when you guys won the national championship in ‘05.
“So, it’s definitely been fun following your career, and I’m glad that we have the relationship that we do, and we appreciate so much all that you do for the sport that we care so much about.”
In an alternate timeline, Texas fanatic Greg McElroy carrier his childhood favorite to a championship victory, instead of Alabama handing Mack Brown a loss. However, Crimson Tide faithful wouldn’t exactly care for that scenario — they’re just fine with the way things ended up working out.
