Makari Vickers, Dasan McCullough out for Oklahoma's Week 1 game vs. Temple
The Oklahoma Sooners are amped up to kick off their 2024 college football season and kickoff is less than 30 minutes away (7:00 PM EST). They’ll take on the Temple Owls before a nationally televised audience on ESPN. Shortly before kickoff, Georgia Stoia III of SoonerScoop dropped some notable nuggets of news for Sooner fans as far as availability of players.
OU defensive back Makari Vickers is in street clothes and will not play on Friday night. OU linebacker Dasan McCullough was seen in a boot and street clothes on the sidelines. It’s no surprise that he won’t be playing on Friday night, since he missed all of fall camp for the Crimson and Cream.
Peyton Bowen was seen running with the first team defense in warmups. The former five-star prospect is slated to return punts this season and fans couldn’t be more excited for it. He racked up 21 tackles and five pass deflections as a freshman last year. It should be fun to watch him make plays all over the field. Bowen made some remarkable plays in fall camp, including a spectacular one-handed interception.
Oklahoma offense was clicking early
Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold came out firing on all cylinders, as many expected him to. He connected for two touchdowns early. One of his passes was a 47-yard beauty to Jalill Farooq. Oklahoma wide receiver Deion Burks is as advertised. The stud receiver drew plenty of buzz in the spring and fall camp. It didn’t take long for him to impress, hauling in three touchdowns in his first half with the program.

At halftime, the Sooners were up 34-0. Arnold has already completed 15 of his 21 passes for 127 yards, while tossing in four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Burks was dominant in the spring, flashing impressive chemistry with Jackson Arnold. The 5-9, 190-pound wideout is a true lid lifter for the Oklahoma passing attack. He recently earned the honor of landing on Bruce Feldman’s “Freaks List” for the 2024 season. Burks has squatted 540 pounds and bench pressed 400 pounds, and after taking a quick look at those numbers and his film, it’s easy to see why he landed on the list. Venables and the Oklahoma staff have to be amped up about his jaw-dropping potential for the 2024 campaign and beyond.
