The Alabama Crimson Tide climbed to No. 1 in the current AP Top 25 Poll following their win over the Georgia Bulldogs. That’s a spot that star defensive back Malachi Moore knows the team belongs in.

With that, there’s going to be pressure as teams take aim to dethrone the Crimson Tide. However, as Moore also pointed out, the team already felt it was at the top and the standard in college football before earning the ranking.

“We always thought we were the standard of college football anyway,” Malachi Moore said. “We were always going to get everybody’s best shot. So, it doesn’t really affect us any way in how we go about our business.

Alabama was consistently one of the best programs in the country under former head coach Nick Saban, winning six national championships during his time there. In 2023, which ended up being Saban’s final season in Tuscaloosa, he was even able to lead the Crimson Tide to an SEC Championship and an appearance in the College Football Playoff. Since then, Kalen DeBoer has taken over but the Crimson Tide are still one of the best teams in the country.

“We come in each day knowing that we’re the best and we’ve got to work like it because on Saturday, whoever we play that week, it’s going to be a Super Bowl, national championship, however, you want to call it,” Moore said. “And we have to be on top of our game every week.”

The next challenge for Alabama is going to be a road test against Vanderbilt. It’s a major game for the Commodores, who would love to knock off the top team in the country. For the Crimson Tide, it’s the next step as they look to make it back to the College Football Playoff.

Paul Finebaum: Alabama is one of the 2-3 teams to beat for national championship

In the win over Georgia, Alabama proved that they’re more than capable of beating anyone this season. For Paul Finebaum, that also makes them a real national championship contender.

“I am surprised how well Alabama has played. That’s kind of going to the very top of the Christmas tree but, if you had given me the stats for Alabama, including the Georgia game? I would have said you’re out of your mind. I cannot believe how good they are,” Finebaum said.

“The biggest surprise, I think personally, is the fact that Kalen DeBoer is actually doing better at his job right now than Nick Saban is at GameDay. That is the biggest upset because nobody has done better than Saban on TV except Kalen DeBoer coaching where Saban used to roam. Alabama didn’t just beat Georgia. Alabama is, for the first time in my mind this season, a legitimate national championship contender and more than a contender. I mean they look like one of the two or three teams to beat.”
