Malachi Moore, Qua Russaw injuries: Kalen DeBoer shares update on Alabama defenders after Wisconsin game
After Saturday’s resounding win over Wisconsin, Kalen DeBoer had updates on multiple Alabama injuries. Malachi Moore, Qua Russaw and Richard Young all left with injuries, and DeBoer said they’re all undergoing further evaluation.
Russaw went down just before halftime on Saturday with a leg injury and never came back, and Moore left Saturday’s game in the third quarter after taking a “hit to the head,” according to DeBoer. Young later left in the fourth quarter with what FOX’s Jenny Taft reported was a lower-body injury.
Alabama has a bye week coming up following a 3-0 record to start DeBoer’s tenure. That, he said, is a reason why he’s optimistic about all three players’ statuses going forward.
“Malachi got a hit to the head, so I think we’re just going through the protocol with him. And it helps having a bye week here. So, I’m thinking he’ll be alright and be fine,” DeBoer said of Moore. “Russaw, lower leg. I don’t know exactly where but I know it is lower and we’ll continue to evaluate with him. And Richard Young, I think same thing. I think just lower leg. I think, actually, very similar.”

Alabama’s offense was firing on all cylinders in Saturday’s game, taking a 42-10 lead in the fourth quarter. Jalen Milroe had a huge day, completing 12 of 17 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns in the air while adding a team-high 75 rushing yards and two touchdowns before Ty Simpson took over.

DeBoer had high praise for Milroe and his ability to lead the offense during his postgame interview on FOX. He noted his quarterback’s dual-threat ability, which was on full display against Wisconsin.
“He’s huge. Just the threat and the way he manipulates the defense and how they have to play us,” DeBoer told Taft. “Eyes are in the backfield, you know, you don’t know where he’s going to be. He can take off and run any time, but he’s making the plays with his arm through the air today, too.”
As for Milroe, he said it was a group effort on offense to get the resounding victory. He pointed out Alabama’s mentality throughout the contest as the difference.
“I think the biggest thing we didn’t do was get complacent. Every rep we had, we tried to maximize as much as possible, and trying to have the 1-0 mentality each and every time we got on the field,” Milroe said. “It wasn’t perfect, but we did a really good job uplifting each other on the sideline. Then, when we got on the field, it was all about attacking the task at hand, which was 1-0 and build great drives.”
