Malachi Moreno is the No. 34 player in the recently updated 2025 On3 150. The 6-foot-11 center averaged 14.9 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 4.8 blocks per game this season for his Georgetown (KY) Great Crossing High team.

“My physicality has improved over the last few months,” Moreno told On3. “I’ve gotten stronger, and I can see that in my game. I have also added to my handle, I’m able to stretch the floor out and handle the ball some.”

Moreno was part of a group of players that the Adidas 3SSB Circuit took overseas to Italy to participate in the Adidas Eurocamp in June. The 20 players invited to play split into two ten-player teams and participated in a six-team tournament against players from around the world.

“I learned a lot about myself and my game over there,” Moreno said. “Especially on the defensive end, with my timing and my rotations. Mostly my defense was able to shine, but overall it was a great trip.”

On3 caught up with four-star Malachi Moreno after a recent live viewing to talk about his recruitment.

Moreno talks visits

“I haven’t started setting up official visits yet,” Moreno said. “But. I will take unofficials to Michigan and Notre Dame here soon.”

Michigan: “I talk to Coach Juwan Howard a lot. I know their program likes to play through their bigs; they had Hunter Dickinson last season. And Coach Howard told me, like back when I first started talking to him, that I remind him of himself when he was in high school. That is good to hear from him, and also how much he and the staff want to get to know my family.”

Notre Dame: “His older son, Braeden Shrewsberry, played for my AAU program (Indiana Elite) last year, so me and my family were able to build a relationship with Coach (Micah) Shrewsberry last season. We’ve been building every since. He likes how I’ve improved since last year. He got to see me a lot around this time last year, and he talks about how much I keep improving my game.”

Moreno talks recruitment

“I’m hearing a lot from schools like Ohio State, Purdue, Indiana, and some more,” Moreno said. “Oh, and also Kentucky too, but they haven’t offered yet.”

Ohio State: “They’re a great school with a big campus. The coaches show a lot of love every chance they get.”

Indiana: “Coach (Mike) Woodson was an NBA coach, so he knows where I want to be and how to get me there.”

Purdue: “They know how to use their bigs and play through their bigs like they do with Zach Edey. He was the National Player of the Year. That shows they can work with someone my size.”

Kentucky: “I went to practice there in June, and we’ve been in contact a good bit since April. Conversations are going well, I’m talking a lot with Coach (Oliver) Antigua and Coach (Chuck) Martin.

At the end of the day…

“I’m really looking for a program that will be a good fit for me,” Moreno said. “That includes a coaching staff that will get me better, develop me on the court, and get me better off the court. I want to play in the league.”
