Malik Reneau, Indiana’s second-leading scorer this past season and one of the Big Ten’s best forwards, plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal after three seasons with the Hoosiers.

The 6-foot-9 Reneau will have one year of eligibility remaining at his next destination. He came to Bloomington as part of the Hoosiers’ vaunted 2022 recruiting class and played 35 games as a true freshman.

Over the next two seasons, he developed into one of the league’s most versatile forwards, averaging 15.4 points and 6.0 rebounds in 33 games as a sophomore. He drew NBA Draft buzz, but ultimately decided to return for his junior season. He saw his numbers dip somewhat in 2024-25 though, in part because of a reduction in his playing time. His dropoff was even more apparent in Big Ten play, where he played just under 21 minutes per game and averaged just 11.4 points and 4.8 rebounds.

He did, however, finish the season strong with five straight double-digit scoring performances at the end of February where he shot better than 61% from the field.

Reneau’s decision to transfer also comes after head coach Mike Woodson was informed in February that he would not be returning for his fifth season with the program. The Hialeah (Fla.) native was one of Woodson’s prized recruits in 2022, along with guard Jalen Hood-Schifino.

As a prep prospect, Reneau chose the Hoosiers over Miami, Florida State, Memphis and more than 20 other offers. He checked in as the No. 25 prospect nationally in that class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
