Four-star QB Malik Washington commits to Mike Locksley and Maryland

Baltimore (Md.) Archbishop Spalding four-star quarterback Malik Washington will play his college football at Maryland. The local product announced his commitment to head coach Mike Locksley and his staff on Friday afternoon.
The 6-foot-3 1/2, 200-pound Washington also strongly considered Virginia Tech, UCF and Syracuse.
“Just the ability to be home and my relationship with Coach Locks,” Washington said of what set Maryland apart.
The Terrapins got the last official visit this past weekend. They led coming in and his latest experience on campus sewed the process up.
“The program is on the rise and are starting to gain some traction in the Big Ten,” Washington said. “I feel like I can go there and leave an impact.”
Washington is tabbed by the On3 Industry as the No. 5 prospect in the state, No. 20 quarterback in the country and No. 260 prospect overall. He recently pointed to Maryland winning three-straight bowl games as something that excites him..

“Coach Locks has been around awhile,” Washington said. “They’ve been keeping in touch with me, talking about what I can do at Maryland as a kid from Maryland.”
Washington has done a lot on the prep level. He heads into his third season as the varsity starter. Washington had a strong junior campaign throwing for 2,093 yards and 21 touchdowns with another 225 yards rushing and six more scores. He has led his team to two-straight MIAA-A Conference Championships.
Last week, Washington competed in the prestigious Elite 11 Finals.
Washington becomes commit No. 14 for Locksley and his staff in the 2025 cycle, the jewel of a class that also includes local four-star running back Iverson Howard.
