Marcel Reed reveals why he stayed at Texas A&M: 'I never had any intention to transfer'
With all that happened this offseason in College Station, Marcel Reed could have elected to enter the transfer portal and go elsewhere. Instead, he remained with the Aggies based on his personal circumstances and those for the program.
Reed spoke with the media to start this week and discussed his decision to stay at Texas A&M. He said that he never had any plans on transferring out after his first year and ahead of his second one.
“I really, myself? I never had any intention to transfer anywhere,” said Reed.
Part of that had to do with Reed still having all of his college years available to him after redshirting. Another part, though, was the hires that Texas A&M made amidst the coaching change that kept him interested in what they could continue to do in the upcoming years.
“You know, I was a redshirt last year so, coming into this year, I still had four years of eligibility. So there wasn’t really a reason for me to go,” Reed explained.
“Then, I mean, just solidifying me being here was hearing Coach Klein was hired. Then I knew a lot about Coach Elko too from him being here previously and then I saw what he did at Duke as well,” added Reed. “So, I mean, I was very optimistic about what was going to happen at A&M.”

Reed has now made seven collegiate appearances, including four this season with three being starts, at Texas A&M. In that time, he is 64-115 (55.7%) overall for 959 yards, seven touchdowns, and an interception. He has also rushed for 275 yards and three more scores.
Now, Reed has stepped in as the Aggies’ starter in place of Conner Weigman. In his outings this fall, he is 43-79 (54.4%) for 585 yards, six touchdowns, and no picks while rushing for 230 yards and pair of scores.
With that, Texas A&M has won in all three of Reed’s starts. That includes their first two conference games of the year with one on the road and one at a neutral site.
Again, the portal could have been a simple decision for Reed to consider all his options. Still, he wanted to keep with it for what’s to come for him at Kyle Field.
“I just stuck to it,” said Reed.
