4-star Marcus Allen talks Missouri, Miami officials; updates his recruitment
Marcus Allen is the No. 26 player in the 2024 On3 150. The 6-foot-6 small forward helped lead his Chandler (AZ) AZ Compass team to the Geico Nationals finals this season. The four-star is averaging 11.5 points with the Florida Rebels on Nike’s EYBL Circuit this summer.
“I’m really forming into that two-way player that I always preach about,” Allen told On3. “I’m playing defense really well and just getting better and more confident.”
On3 caught up with Marcus Allen after a recent live viewing at Session 1 of Nike’s EYBL Circuit.
Allen talks officials
The only official visits I’ve taken right now are Missouri and Miami,” Allen said.
Miami: “I mean, their program is really good, and they’ve been winning. Coach (Jim) Larranaga is a really good person outside of basketball. So it’s a very family oriented program. They get out in transition, and they play defense. That fits my style pretty well.”
Missouri: “Coach CY (CY Young) and Coach (Dennis) Gates are two good black men. Their school and their program is very good to me. In his first season, I thought things went really well. They made a run to March Madness, and I’m looking forward to what they do next year with my teammate Trent (Pierce).”

Florida to retain head coach
In Allen’s words
“I don’t have any more visits set up yet; I still have to talk with my mom and find time to set those up,” Allen said. “I would say right now, I’m hearing the most from Michigan, Stanford, Ohio State, Villanova, and Arkansas of the other schools who have offered. Miami and Missouri are still on me hard. (editor’s note – Marquette and UConn offered after this interview).
Throughout the first live period weekend, head coaches from Michigan, Stanford, Ohio State, Villanova, Miami, Marquette, and others were at Allen’s games. Assistants from all the programs mentioned were also in attendance. As things seem to be heating up in Allen’s recruitment, the four-star says he is not in a rush with this process.
“I don’t have any time frames set for commitments, visits, or narrowing my list down right now,” Allen continued. “I’m taking my time with the process. Maryland is the latest school to reach out. I think they are probably close to offering. My recruitment is still wide open.
“The relationship I have with the head coach will be big for me. Communication, how can we both blend together so that everyone is on the same page? I’m a team player, and I’m versatile. If the fit is right, It doesn’t matter to me if I play the three, the five, the two, or the four. I want to win, and I’m open to whatever it takes.”
