Mark Ingram blasts Brian Kelly for saying Miller Moss outplayed Garrett Nussmeier
Mark Ingram blasted LSU coach Brian Kelly for his comments about Miller Moss and Garrett Nussmeier following the Tigers’ loss to the Trojans.
Kelly referred to Moss, USC’s new QB, outplaying Nussmeier. That didn’t sit well with the former Heisman Trophy winner.
For context, Kelly’s original comments can be seen below.
“They’ve got some good athletes. I thought the quarterback played well tonight,” Kelly said Sunday night. “He outplayed our quarterback. He made the plays when he needed to.”
Ingram wasn’t having it.
That’s not throwing him under the bus, that’s throwing him under the 18 wheeler semi,” Ingram said on The Triple Option. “Your player just went out there and played his tail off. You said it. Nine incompletions, 300 yards, two touchdowns. He didn’t throw an interception until the last pass of the game, which the game was over, and you go out here and you throw your player, your starting quarterback, under the bus? You should be encouraging these guys.

“This is the first game of the season. We talked about the 12 team expansion, the season isn’t over. You should be encouraging your teammates, encouraging your players, bringing your players together, instead of throwing your starting quarterback under the bus. That is unacceptable and unheard of. And quite frankly, I know for a fact (Kelly) probably wants that back.”

Kelly later clarified his remarks regarding Moss and Nussmeier.
“My comments after the game were, ‘How do you think Nussmeier player?’ I said, ‘He played pretty good, but the other kid played pretty good too and they won the game,’” Kelly said. “So this had nothing to do with Garrett Nussmeier not playing well, I think his numbers spoke for themselves.
“There’s a couple of plays that he left out there that he’d like back, and I’m sure there were a couple of plays that Moss left out there that he’d like back… I thought the kid played well, but our guy played really well either. So whatever my comments were, they were not intended in any way to disparage a guy who went 30 of 39 for 308 yards.”
