Markus Kerr is a 6-foot-5 sophomore wing at Charlotte (NC) Chambers High. Kerr is averaging 11.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per contest while shooting 36 percent from three. This is after a summer that saw Kerr averaged 12.9 points while shooting 36 percent from three with the Team United program on Nike’s EYBL E15 Circuit this summer.

“I’m a three-level scorer,” Kerr told On3. “I’m a combo guard really, I can get to the basket, shoot it, and create for my teammates. My on-ball defense has really improved this season, and I can see that in my game. I watch a lot of Kyrie Irving and Darius Garland, I just love how they play.”

On3 caught up with Markus Kerr after a recent live viewing to talk about the early stages of his recruitment.

“I have offers right now from Mississippi State, Wake Forest, VCU, and some others,” Kerr said. “I’ve taken an unofficial to Wake Forest, I haven’t been able to see the others yet.”

Kerr talks Wake Forest

WAKE FOREST: “They’re a great program. They play fast and they’re physical and organized. They have good coaches there, too. I saw there that if you’re looking to score the ball, you got to go get to it. If you take too many dribbles, it won’t happen.”

“I’m hearing from NC State, Illinois, Virginia Tech, and Syracuse some too,” Kerr said.

Kerr’s Athletic Lineage

Markus Kerr’s dad, Andre Kerr, played at Furman where he averaged 11.4 points in 59 games. He was voted to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team in 1995-96.

“My dad played at Furman back in the 90’s,” Kerr said.

At the End of the Day

“I’m going to look at the players they have in the program,” Kerr said. “I want to be around other guys who can score but also have basketball IQ. I want to go to a program that will develop players and I’ll look at the system and the fit.”
