Some Alabama fans are still having a hard time accepting being left out of the 12-team College Football Playoff field. That includes former Crimson Tide defensive back Marlon Humphrey.

With Ohio State and Notre Dame facing off for the title Monday evening, Humphrey took to social media and made a bold claim in support of his former team.

“Alabama should be playing in this National Championship,” he wrote.

The Crimson Tide finished the regular season with a record of 9-3 and ranked No. 11 in the final CFP rankings. However, they were ultimately the first team left out of the field as Arizona State and Clemson, both of which finished ranked behind Alabama, received automatic bids as conference champions.

Many Crimson Tide fans pointed to a losses from SMU and Indiana in the first round of the College Football Playoff as justification for them feeling robbed by being left out. However, Alabama didn’t help that argument when it lost to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Clemson was the only three-loss team that made the CFP and only punched its ticket because of its conference title victory. Had the Tigers lost that game, it’s likely that Alabama would have received the final at-large bid and got an opportunity to prove the doubters wrong.

Still, it feels like Humphrey is going out on a pretty big limb here to say the Crimson Tide deserved to be in the title game. Losses against Vanderbilt and Oklahoma in the regular season didn’t help boost their resume, and if they had won either of those games this might not even be a discussion.

Marlon Humphrey just wrapped up his eighth NFL season, all of which have come with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens just saw their season end on Sunday night after a loss against the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs.

Regardless, Humphrey and other Alabama fans will have to watch as their team misses out on the big game for a third straight season. Prior to that, Alabama had played for six of the past seven national championships, including winning a title with Humphrey in he 2015 season.
