Maryland guard Jahari Long enters NCAA transfer portal

Maryland point guard Jahari Long has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He missed the 2024-25 season with a knee injury.
Long suffered a non-contact injury in last year’s Big Ten Tournament, which kept him out for 2024-25. Prior to his injury, he appeared in 30 games – including three starts – as a fifth-year senior, averaging 4.7 points and 1.4 assists per game.
Long started his college career at Seton Hall, where he largely played a reserve role and only appeared in five games as a sophomore due to injury. He will have one year of eligibility remaining after preserving a redshirt this year.

Jahari Long played high school basketball at Bellaire (TX) Episcopal, where he was a three-star recruit. He was the No. 176 overall player from the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Maryland just underwent a coaching change following a run to the Sweet Sixteen. Kevin Willard officially departed for Villanova over the weekend after three years at the helm, and the Terrapins worked quickly to find his replacement.

Former Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams is taking over after six seasons in College Station. He amassed a 120-73 overall record with the Aggies, including a 56-44 mark in SEC play, while taking the program to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
Williams signed a six-year contract to take over at Maryland, according to multiple reports. His introductory press conference will take place Wednesday.
“It is an honor and privilege to be named the head coach of the University of Maryland men’s basketball team,” Williams said in a statement. “I want to thank President Pines and Colleen Sorem for this opportunity to lead one of the most prestigious programs in the country. In leading this program, I promise to uphold the history of Maryland basketball and make Terp Nation proud with the men who represent this institution.”
Jahari Long is the fifth Maryland player to enter the transfer portal since the season-ending loss to Florida. The biggest name of the group is Ja’Kobi Gillespie – the No. 7 overall player to hit the open market so far this cycle, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.
