UTSA outfielder Mason Lytle has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He started his career at Oregon before becoming the American Athletic Conference Newcomer Position Player of the Year this past season.

Lytle had a huge season in 2024 after transferring to UTSA, finishing with a .348 batting average and 11 home runs. He also totaled 48 RBI and had a .376 on base percentage in his 54 appearances for the Roadrunners.

For his efforts, Lytle – a native of Pearland, Texas – was named a first team All-AAC selection and won the conference’s Newcomer Position Player of the Year award. He will have one year of eligibility remaining after taking a redshirt in 2023 due to a season-ending injury.

Mason Lytle started his career at the JUCO level, playing three seasons at San Jacinto Community College from 2019-22. He was a two-time all-conference selection as he finished with a career .339 average to go with 19 home runs and 95 RBI before transferring to Oregon.

His time with the Ducks was cut short, though, due to an injury. Lytle only appeared in six games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury ended his senior season. He then entered the portal and committed to UTSA, where he found success as a redshirt senior before hitting the open market again as a graduate transfer.

UTSA finished with a 32-24 overall record in 2024, including a 17-10 mark in American Athletic Conference action. The Roadrunners saw their season come to an end with back-to-back losses in the conference tournament. That meant they missed out on the NCAA Tournament in their first year in the league after leaving Conference USA amid a groundbreaking round of conference realignment.

Lytle was one of four UTSA players to make the first team All-AAC team. Teammates Matt King, Ulises Quiroga and Alexander Ovigo also received the honor, while two Roadrunners players made the second team. All told, seven UTSA players earned all-conference honors this past season.

The college baseball transfer portal opened for a 30-day window starting June 3 after the Regional round of the NCAA Tournament. The window will officially close July 2.
