Farmaggedon went international on Saturday, kicking off the college football season in Dublin. Iowa State will have a happy flight back to the United States thanks to some guts from head coach Matt Campbell. A third straight win in the rivalry vs. Kansas State, some postgame mocking took place.

KSU athletic director took aim at Iowa State and their uniforms before the game. Taylor said, “(Iowa State AD) Jamie Pollard had to beg their fans to wear their colors, because they don’t know what the hell their colors are.” The Cyclones are well known for wearing black uniforms despite having primary colors of red and yellow.

Iowa State’s Matt Campbell responded once his team earned a win. Telling a reporter to ask him about the program wearing black, Campbell pointed out how color scheme is not really at the top of his mind.

“We don’t really care what color we wear,” Campbell said. “It’s never been about a jersey color for us, it’s never been about any of that. It’s been about team, togetherness, and playing winning football. So, I appreciate the question. Go Cyclones.”

Technically, the game in Ireland saw Kansas State as the home team. They donned purple uniforms, meaning Iowa State needed a lighter color to wear. A primarily white, with a good amount of red and yellow mixed in there, wound up being the choice.

It’s one quarterback Rocco Becht is a fan of. But he claims to like every uniform combination Iowa State currently has in its arsenal. Becht believes that if a team feels comfortable in the uniforms, it translates well on the field.

“I love the color black,” Becht said. “I honestly love all our colors. The uniforms we had on today were sick as well with the helmet. However these players, however this team feels — when they feel good in what they’re wearing, the play good. So, I think that’s kind of how we’re thinking. But I love all our uniform combos we’ve got. Hopefully, that’s not a big deal.”

Big deal or not, Campbell felt compelled enough to call out Taylor. Iowa State hosts South Dakota on Aug. 30, looking to get the second win of the season. Some extra attention might come for what uniform combination Iowa State decides to go with for the home opener. Maybe since Campbell is such a big fan of the all-black look, the Cyclones will opt for them.
