Matt Leinart looking forward to reunion with Vince Young, highly anticipated matchup
It seems like nearly every college football pregame show in the country will be in Austin on Saturday when Alabama takes on Texas. FOX Big Noon Kickoff is no exception as Matt Leinart and Co. make the trip to Hook ‘Em Hangout for the festivities.
As part of the pregame show, Texas legend Vince Young is expected to join the show. That means Leinart will reunite with the quarterback who beat his USC Trojans 41-38 in the 2006 Rose Bowl Game, and the two are still the game is sure to come up in the discussions.
“Me and Vince are super tight. We’re boys. We text and talk all the time,” Leinart told FOX 7’s John Hygh. “But yeah … I can’t get away from it. Now, here, with the fans tomorrow and Vince, it’s just one of those things, man. And I can’t say anything to him, either, because they beat us.”

The two former quarterbacks are gearing up for quite a show on Saturday as two high-profile quarterbacks — reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and former Five Star Plus+ recruit Quinn Ewers — face off in Week 2. Ahead of the showdown, Leinart said fans could be in for a treat with all the talent on both rosters.
“This is crazy,” Leinart said. “Obviously, it’s a big matchup and a lot of great storylines. You get the No. 1 team in the country coming in to Austin, they’re fantastic. Bryce Young, reigning Heisman winner, Will Anderson. They’ve got some studs there.

“Then, you look at Texas with Sark and what he’s trying to build here. Quinn Ewers is a young, talented quarterback. Bijan [Robinson is] I think the best running back in the country. There’s a lot of great storylines.”
That’s some high praise for Robinson, but Hygh then asked Leinart if the Texas offensive line can hold against the tough Alabama defense. He said that’s where Steve Sarkisian’s play-calling will come into play.
“I don’t know if there is a line that can go against Bama’s defense,” Leinart joked. They’re young up front.
“I think the one thing that Sark does a great job of is just play-calling and being creative. So they’re going to have to do a lot of misdirection stuff. They’ve got Xavier Worthy, who’s a really great player. They’ve got to get guys out in space and hopefully, they can just come up with some big plays.”
