Lincoln was more than ready for Nebraska to face Colorado, arguably being the biggest game of the weekend. Luckily, Matt Rhule saw his team come through in a big way, winning the old-school rivalry game 28-10. Nebraska jumped out to a three-touchdown lead in the first half and never looked back

In a postgame interview with NBC’s Kathryn Tappen, Rhule assessed the play of his team, praising them for the margin of victory. He admitted the offensive play-calling in the second half got conservative but will use it as a teaching point moving forward. Big times are ahead of Nebraska.

“Not many people thought we were going to beat them by this much,” Rhule said. “Wasn’t really a contest in the second half. Defense played great. We had the one punt block that led to their only score. Probably got a little too conservative. Apparently, we got a lot of penalties in the second half, called back some big runs. We’re going to have to play a lot better. Playing some really good teams.”

Finishing 5-7 last season was not at the fault of the Huskers’ defense. Quarterback play was a back breaker at times, mainly with the turnovers. Rhule felt like if somebody could come in and protect the football, Nebraska would see a massive improvement.

Well, Dylan Raiola, despite being a true freshman, has done exactly that through two starts. No turnovers on Saturday night was a huge positive and all Rhule could ask for in his quarterback.

“Well, we’re not turning the ball over,” Rhule said. “It might look ugly in some ways but 28-10 tonight does not look ugly to me. We’ve got some things to correct but he’s not turning the ball over and we won in two minute. Two weeks in a row now, we’ve driven down and scored right before the half.”

Nebraska now moves to 2-0 and finds itself in great position moving forward. Northern Iowa is next on the schedule at home, a game almost everyone will expect to result in a win. A Big Ten slate will then be in front of Rhule, potentially having an opportunity to make some noise in the new-look conference.
